Caring Hearts Helping Hands Desperately Needs Your Assistance to Identify a New Facility by January 2026.
Caring Hearts Helping Hands, Inc. (CHHH) was organized and incorporated in October 2002 to assist financially challenged families in Kent County. CHHH has enjoyed a home in a warehouse at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course for 21 of those 23 years thanks to a most generous benefactor, Jack Beiser. Due to recent restructuring by the current owners, CHHH needs to relocate before the end of January 2026, and we are asking for your assistance to help us identify a new location in Kent County.
For those unfamiliar with our non-profit, CHHH started with our Christmas program in 2002, matching families with wish-grantors to purchase gifts for the children or volunteer shoppers to purchase and be reimbursed for the children’s gifts. In the fall of 2003, we began our Heart and Sole program (back to school) where each child receives a grade-appropriate, fully loaded backpack and gift card for a new pair of shoes. Starting in 2004, we encouraged each family to come into the warehouse once a month to shop for anything their family needed at no cost.
Since 2002, CHHH has helped more than 2,450 families who have made over 3,800 visits to our warehouse. Well over 6,600 children have benefitted from our Christmas program and our Heart and Sole program has averaged 162 school children per year. We are an all-volunteer organization, averaging 30 volunteers yearly who together provide over 900 hours each year. Over the years, CHHH has relied on the generosity of local organizations, private foundations, and the surrounding community to perform our mission.
CHHH has been blessed with so much community support from organizations such as Orchard Church, Camden-Wyoming Round Table, Bay Health Volunteers, De Dept of Pensions, De Dept of Education, Del-One Credit Union, Milford Lions Club, Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club, Smyrna Spring Meadows Club, Savant Wealth Management, Masonic Charities, Dover Masons, Whitehall Neck Sportsman Club, Champion’s Club and many other worthwhile contributors. We have also been provided numerous grants from private foundations, to include Wilmington Flower Market, Draper-WBOC Bless our Children, DCF Potter Trust, Speedway Children’s Charity, Longwood Gardens, Mid-Del Foundation, Cen-Del Hawkins Family Foundation, Laffy-McHugh, Christmas Shop, and DCF Pettinaro Foundation. In fact, contributions from the area citizenry usually make up about 1/3 of our $60,000 annual budget, which doesn’t include about 1/3 of the families who are sponsored by wish-grantors for Christmas.
Unfortunately, after providing years of valuable assistance to many hardworking, financially challenged families in Kent County, CHHH is now in jeopardy of closure, if we cannot secure a new facility by the new year. While we remain flexible in our search, our ideal new location, based on our current facility, would include at least 2,400 square feet with HVAC and room for industrial pallet racks/sleeving to store clothing, shoes, gifts, and various other boxed supplies. It would also have a collocated restroom and office space with WiFi connectivity for two computers and two printers, and a conference table with chairs. We are open every Tuesday 10am-2pm and the 1st and 3rd Saturday from 10am to 1pm
If you can provide any assistance with our search, please reach out to us ASAP at caringheartsde@gmail.com or call 302-698-1900..
Due to the pending move in January, we will not be accepting donations after Saturday, November 1.
